If her wrath you feel, we shall pity.
Yet some who speak on her behalf,
I fear just seek the golden calf.
It's true, we must treat her right.
Or we will incur a deadly plight.
Treat her with distinction
Or surely face extinction!
- Edith A. Phinazee
This quote from the poem "Mother Nature" by Edith A. Phinazee describes the environment as mother nature. I like seeing the environment be given the name Mother Nature because like a human mother, the environment will take care of you if you treat it with respect and admiration. Unlike most descriptions of mother nature, peaceful and calm, the author describes it as a strong and scary woman who will exterminate us all if we don't treat her with care. This description is one I feel humans might listen to more because it inscribes fear instead of pretending everything is okay. The effects of natural disasters is a devastating example of how we might feel the wrath of mother nature. If we want to stay on this Earth for a long time, we must treat the environment with care or it won't take care of us. We cant breathe, drink, eat, bathe, or live in money. Only after we realize this will people start to realize we need to take better care of our planet.
